Episode 16: Eat the Damn Chips with Heather Chauvin

Synopsis

Heather and I go way back - in fact, to be fair, she is part of the reason I started this podcast. She is an incredible speaker, host, author, entrepreneur, mom, and human being, and I'm proud to be able to share her with you.

Welcome to an organic, passionate, and open conversation with my friend and soul family Heather Chauvin.  I want to briefly introduce her so you know who this person is before you even meet her.  Heather does some serious heavy lifting in the world of helping and healing others.  She has a “holds no punches” approach to her work - and her life in general - which is more concerned with getting things done than with getting them perfect - while delivering at incredible quantity AND quality.

Heather is an expert at the art of being a parent - and of being the executive of her life, and of a very successful company.  She specializes in helping women and mothers to rediscover what it feels like to be alive.  But this conversation is for all people.  Her background is in social work, and she has an incredible podcast called Mom Is In Control.  She’s published more than 800 episodes, and has more than 5M downloads.  One reason this episode has special nostalgic and sentimental value for me is because Heather was the first person to ask me to be a guest on any podcast.  Mom Is In Control is the first show I spoke on.  I am including a link to that first conversation of ours in the show notes.  I can still remember how nervous I felt getting prepared to record with her one night in late 2018.  Being invited by Heather to share my own message really boosted my confidence at the time, and encouraged me to do more speaking.

Late in the episode I opened up something that Heather and I had been discussing prior to recording, which was related to our personal / professional relationship (what’s the difference anyway, right?), that I wanted to share in full trust that it would bring us closer.  Saying what is on our mind is a gift when it is seen as such - and I knew Heather would appreciate me sharing whatever is real for me, and help me to come back into rapport with myself and our relationship as a result of owning my feelings.  I share this now simply because I worried there wasn’t enough context for that part of our interview to be as beneficial as it could be while you listen to the raw convo.  I think the takeaway we both arrived at live during this episode, which you’ll be able to hear too, is that speaking truth neutralizes shame, and creates deep, even unbreakable intimacy.  Heather has brought riches and gifts into my own life; I know she will yours too.  I trust her and believe in her.  I hope you enjoy our conversation.

PS:  Did I mention she has a book that’s launching NEXT WEEK?  Check all of her work out at HeatherChauvin.com :  a memoir-meets-personal-development-asset called Dying to Be a Good Mother.  If you want ease and freedom, but realize that 99% of the time it’s emotionally uncomfortable, welcome to the party.
